The Bored Guard
2012
Client: CADW - Welsh National Monuments - Conwy Castle, Conwy
Material: Oak
I chose to represent what elements of the wooden architectural heritage of the castle would have looked like whilst conforming to the brief in the form of a gatehouse guard. I consulted with conservators, archaeologists and members of staff working at CADW.
The piece incorporates a variety of details taken from other examples of 13th century architecture throughout the country and is constructed of approximately 30 pieces of oak all jointed and pegged.
The sculpture has become a very popular photo opportunity, please google Conwy castle guard to see just a few examples.
